The many different facets of carriage driving cater for all levels of equestrians both competitively or for pleasure. Whether your kids have outgrown the family pony, are off to Uni, or if you are just looking for a new avenue with your horse, carriage driving may be for you.
A new club has just formed for pleasure drivers known as the “North Coast Carriage Club”. They support picnic drives, showing and many other fun activities in harness with regular club days. The good news is you don’t need too much to start as was shown by one of the clubs newest members Lauren Booth, who for as little as $1000 found a second hand vehicle and harness on ebay. Her ex trotter only costing around $300. Her first outing was with the club this weekend along with her mother and son William aged 4 yrs who came along for the ride. The great part about this sport is that all can partake, family and friends etc.
For the competitive individual there is also “The Horse Driving Trials Club” which specialises in combined driving events which include dressage, marathon and obstacles. This type of driving is a very action packed international sport. The HDT club holds clinics, training days and events also throughout the region. Both clubs have a full calendar for the next 12 months and there is something offered for all.
