G'day Everyone,

Our 2nd fundraiser dinner dance was a huge success both as a community event....and also successful fundraiser. The total raised on the night is $11,600! yes you read right, that is $11,600 :-)) Amazing community I live in...big hearts and deep pockets!

My heart is huge with love for this community, and all the wonderful support that makes doing what I'm doing with ride4acure a privilege.

Knowing also that every cracker raised will support research into melanoma is icing on the cake! Thanks for being part of this wonderful journey (near and far), also if your a facebooker check out ride4acure group page by simply typing ride4acure into the search box

In my journey with grief and sorrow getting fitter has been the best medicine for me.  My promise to Hannah caused me to get to the gym and on the bike.  If I had waited til I ‘felt’ like going to the gym, I’d still be waiting. Making myself walk through the doors because of a promise I’d made to Hannah and also needing to be the best I could be for my other kids was enough reason to start…..and from this small start ride4acure has emerged…..

The aim of ride4acure – Hannah Rose Melanoma Research Fund is to support research into melanoma effecting adolescents and young adults (15-25 year olds) for new treatments and ultimately a cure.

Today’s research is tomorrow’s treatment…

My name is Maura Luxford and I am riding my bike from Kempsey on the Mid-North Coast of NSW to Melbourne along both the Pacific and Hume Highways.

Some of the towns I’m visiting are Tea Gardens, Clarence Town, Canberra, Wangarratta, Kilmore, Romsey to Melbourne approx 1500 kms. If your en route (Pacific or Hume or close to it) please make contact – This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it – I’m happy to visit where I’m invited! Am teeing up meetings in schools, Rotary and Lions Clubs and a few pubs along the way.

I’m doing this to raise funds to support research into adolescent and young adult melanoma. I’m motivated by the loss of my own daughter Hannah Rose Luxford-Matthew’s life at Christmas 2008 to this insideous disease. Hannah was only 20 years old. All donations given to the Hannah Rose Melanoma Research Fund are targeted for research. The first year target is $150 000.

I’m taking 38 days to complete the journey stopping at many town en route to promote awareness regarding melanoma and skin cancer. Melanoma is the leading cancer in young people and cancer in general is the second biggest cause of death in young people in Australia next to car accidents.

yours in pedalling…
