What a great story. What an amazing amount of pleasure and joy you and your friends must have brought to the people of Westbeach Residential Care (just down the road from my sister, in fact! I know that seeing a horse brightens my heart and lightens my soul. Thank you, on their behalf.

Well done I am 64yrs old and was very upset with Mr Rudds comments,I too have a couple of "old horses" in their 30's and they are such a joy, the mare loves to give all the grandchildren a ride and is so careful with them. Let's hope someone gets thru' to Mr Rudd and makes him realise the treasures that older folk can impart to the young.

Snoopy...now that was a dog intune.
She ended up staying with mum and dad while I travelled the countryside. Dont think she minded much. Mum & dad loved her just as much as I did...well maybe not quite as much, but they looked after her well. Saddest thing was the night she died I was supposed to be driving down from Armidale for a visit. My car was a bit dodgy and I had no cash so I decided not to go. I made the phone call to mum some time in the afternoon, and Snoops died that night. She knew there was no point waiting for...I hadnt given her a date for my return, and at about 15 years old she was ready for the big sleep. Still miss her.

I do think that grieving is a personal thing, and wether it be grieving for a human or an animal, it doesn't matter...the fact is the person grieving is in pain and needs to deal with it in there own unique way.

Animals give us so much, and many turn to animals when they have lost a loved one. Sadly sometimes we don't realise just how much we love something till it is gone.

I know recently a friend of mine was upset as someone that doesn't have children compared there loss of a dog to this ladies loss of a daughter. My friend was very strong on her opinion that you can't compare a dog to a daughter. Looking at it from both sides, the thing is, both are grieving and both are in pain, does it mean that you are in more pain over losing a daughter to a dog? I don't know, I have been blessed and have never lost a child. I do know though that we shouldn't make light of anyone's pain, cause for them it is very real and to that lady losing her dog, was like losing a child, as she doesn't have children. I don't think there is any right or wrong, it is just how it is...you grieve how you grieve, we are all unique individuals with unique ways of dealing with what life throws at us.
